Sometimes life can be challenging especially when you are dealing with a physical disability or taking care of someone having a physical disability. There are a lot of costs involved with it which makes it harder for people to cater to their specific needs. And that’s why there are government plans in Canada to help people live a respectful and equal life. One such plan is Ontario Disability Support Program aka ODSP. Are you also wondering what this program is, what are ODSP payment dates, and how this program works? We have got you covered. Let’s get started.
What Exactly is the Ontario government Ontario Disability Support Program?
This is a welfare program initiated by the Ontario government for the residents of Ontario. Under this program, residents having a disability or any medical condition get financial aid in terms of feeding, housing, and clothing along with additional health-related benefits.
The ODSP act came into existence in the year 1997 by the Ontario government in order to help residents live a respectful and self-sufficient life. As of October last year, more than 520,000 residents have taken the benefit. Along with Ontario other territories such as Alberta’s AISH program and Saskatchewan’s SAID are also similar.

How to Receive ODSP Benefits?
You can get this benefit in three ways.
1. Bank Cheque
Generally, the government does not encourage people to opt for this type because of the pandemic situation. As the cheques are dispatched through Canada Post the date that you receive the cheque may differ for every month. For easy payment distribution, the Ontario government mails these cheques earlier so the benefits are not delayed.
2. Reloadable Payment Card
A Reloadable payment card is just like a debit card. You will get the benefits credited to your card every month and can use and withdraw the amount from the nearest ATM or any POS Centre. You can also use the amount for any online transactions.
3. Direct Bank Deposit
This is the most suggestible option because it is rapid and very easy to use. All you have to do is register your bank details and you are good to go. The amount will be credited directly into your bank account every month on the ODSP payment dates.
